lliar analysis of my front cover

Language-
in my magazine i have thought about were the photo was going to go to be able to fit in all the text/headlines.Headlines are a main thing on a magazine. the 1st main convention of language is the masthead,my magazine masthead has very big text and i think stands out alot. The photograph i have used is a mid shot, and the smaller images i have used are to make the page look better and these photo's connected with the headlines i used.
Institution-
The instution i am using is wyke college (six form)which means only people from 16-19 can attend.
There are 1300 people at Wyke it is a popular college in the east riding and hull male and females. Wyke disappointly turns away about 500 people each year.50% of the people attending the college live outside of hull. There is a amazing 99.7% pass rate on A level’s.

Ideology-
The ideology of my magazine W.O.W is that i am trying you all to respect every student with equality, and treat them all the same. Also to try your hardest at college then good things can come out of it.

Audience-
The audience is students age 16-19 because it is a six form college, which means it isn’t open to people above the age of 19 or below the age of 16. Its students usually come from east riding or hull, so the audience is based there.  Also females and males because of the colours i have used.

Representation-
It represents mainly females but the colours i have used connotate both gender's because i used blue and red, blue for boys and red for girls. Males are represented in the story lines as well.

evaluation of my front page final cover

My college magazine,W.O.W uses the familiar main conventions of a real magazine, it has a masthead/title of the magazine what is the biggest and brightest text on the product to make it stand out so people remember the name. It includes photographs what link back to magazine genre, and its headlines which are also conventions of a familar magazine. It doesn’t have the normal convention of having a barcode on my magazine because as it is a free magazine it doesn’t need one I took the familar image of the masthead to be in the left hand cornor, and did the same on my magazine. My college magazine primary representation is netball players who are female and students at Wyke College. But the secondary representation is students at Wyke or anybody who’s interested in sport, or reading about what is on our headline covers. Mainly females are represented though because of my selected photo’s. The social groups it represents are middle class SEG C1-e.The audience for my college magazine is females and males, because it has stories to interest both genders although they is a female on the front. Students at Wyke college are both females and males maybe I should of showed this more on the front cover, but I tried my best to on the headlines, and what colours I used in the house style.I tried to attract my audience by putting headlines on for both gender’s and using the colour blue for males, blue traditionally connotate boys and also symbolizes serenity and infinity. I also used the colour red/pink for the females because these colours traditionally connotate females it also connotates courage and love. The uses of these bright colours should also attract any audience and catch their eye.I have learnt that technologies don’t always help on how you have planned a product to be, you can have the idea in your head, but sometimes it is not possible to create it on adobe Photoshop. You can not always count on technology to help you. Every time I do a product on Photoshop I need some help, but hopefully I will get use to this each time I get set a task, then I will be able to make my set products more professional.
If I was to do this again I would do more planning and think of better ways to show who my audience are, and think of more over the top catchy headline’s.

chosen font

I have chosen to have lithous pro as my title of the magazine font,as i think its not to over the top and its not to plain. The colours will be red and blue to fit in with the housestyle. The writing underneath my title is going to be in microsoft sans sherieff, this is plain and black just to explain what w.o.w stands for.

housestyle

I have choosen to have a selected housestyle on my magazine of red, blue and black which I am going to have on each page, these are bright colours which will attract the auidence. Having a housestyle makes the magazine look more professional and tidy.

font idea's

I havent choosen this text because it looks like it should be on a army magazine not a college magazine.

I havent choosen this text because it is plain and looks like it should be the text on the headlines instead.

I didnt choose this text because it looks to old fashioned and plain.

I didnt choose this text because it didnt attract me to be the best headline.

I didnt choose this text because it looked to imature and like bubble writing you would find on a child's book.

my choosen text.

choosen name for magazine

I have choose 'wyke obviously welcoming' or for short 'w.o.w' The magazine title will be w.o.w because it is short and snappy. I like this idea because i took the inspreation from the NME magazine 'new music now' and people will remember 'w.o.w' more then ' wyke obviously welcoming' because it is short and snappy. It also could denotate wow! as in wow the college is amazing. And the longer version could mean it is a very welcoming college.

different names for the magazine

grade A.
grade W.

  • wyke obviously welcoming.

what is on the pages.

front cover..
main photo, asosiating with the main headline.
2 small photo's asosiating with the smaller headlines.
3 headlines.
magazine name.
advertisment for wyke halloween party.

contents page..
3 random photo's of the college.
14 page numbers of what's included in the magazine.

photos i have selected.

Represents one of the main stories on the front cover of the new Wyke magazine. I thought a lot about this photo down to the final detail of having the netball player of the week in her actual netball kit. It also leaves me enough room to add clear text on the front cover without it over lapping onto the student. I chose a female to be on my front cover, not to not represent males but because the main story is about netball and it is stereotypically a female sport.

different shots i have taken.

I have choosen not to use this as my main photo on my front cover because i wouldnt of been able to fit the text on without it overlapping the student, instead i have choosen to include it on my front cover as a small photo in the cornor to fit one of the leadlines.

I havent choosen this photo as my main front cover image because the student is laughing and there isnt enough room to fit on the text/headlines on the page.
I havent choosen this as my main front cover shot,as it is not a mid shot photo and the hands and ball look un focused and shakey.

I have not choosen this one as my main front cover photo, because i dont think it catches my eye.
I havent choosen this photo as my main front cover photo becuse i dont like the pegs in the background or the way the ball is postioned in the air.
I havent choosen this photo as my main front cover image because you can see the door at the edge of the photo and it doesnt look professional.
As the image above i havent choosen this as my front cover because of the side of the door at the side of the image.
I havent choosen this photo as the main photo on my front cover because basically it is not a mid-shot image.

I havent choosen this as my main photo on my front cover because it is not a portrait photo,or a mid shot of a person and is plain and boring so i am going to use it as one of my small photos on my contents page.
I havent choosen this as my main front cover image because it is not portrait or a mid shot photo of a person,so i am going to include this as a smaller image on my front cover.
I am not using this as my front cover main image because it is not clear what the photo is about, and i didnt think it was a good shot on the side.
I didnt choose this as my main photo beacuse i didnt think they was much space for text or other images and the door was showing at the edge of the image.

This is my choosen image.

rough computer plan of contents page-

analysis of magazine 2

Language- The text on the front cover of this magazine is plain and boring, but on the other hand the white works well on the block black colour, you can read it properly un like the Grimsby magazine. The black and white colours connotate that the college is an indivual college, with mystery and purety. The photograph gets my attention when I first look at the page, because it is in the centre and the biggest thing on the front cover. Nothing else on this front cover attracts me because everything is boring, and I think it’s a bad image to present to the audience they may think the college is a boring place, just by seeing the front cover of a magazine. On a good note, the magazine is free we can tell this because there is no barcode. It makes a magazine more interesting when it has more than one photograph to focus on, and this one photograph isn’t very appealing. They have made good use of the layout though because it is easy to read.

Institution- East Riding College, it welcomes more than 1,500 full time students each year. Thousands more take on part-time and higher education courses. The main campuses are in Beverly and the costal resort of Bridlington, also having a smaller site in hull. East Riding College was rated as a "good" college by Ofsted in 2007 and we have been told they are improving. Courses provided by the College range from full-time courses aimed at 16 to 18-year-olds to higher education courses

Ideology- the college belivives in equality, as you can suggest from the people in the photo having no identity. The headline ‘no bullying’ suggests the college doesn’t believe in bullying, and wants everybody to have their own indivuality. By the other headline’s we can see they believe in encouraging you to do well in what you want to do, by ‘making a positive contribution’ and getting involved with the college.

Audience- College student’s I think from 16 over because it doesn’t state on the front page that it is a six form college, so this suggests its open to all ages and all people willing to start a career. The audience should include parents of teenagers deciding what college they want to attend, because usually parents are a main part in deciding teenagers future education. So the college will have to give of a good feeling to them as well as proving to the students what a good college it is.

Representation- I don’t think this magazine gives a clear representation from the magazine, because we can not see what gender or age the people in the photograph are. However on the other hand you could see this as a good thing been you can be who you want to be at east riding college, because it represents anybody, whoever you are and what you want to be.

analysis of magazine 1

Language- photographs look like they have been organised on were the students were going to stand. They didn’t think about how the clothes and walls were going to affect how clear the text is against the colours of the clothes and wall’s. The magazine name is strong, clear and stands out on the magazine and is it a bright red which might make people remember the name. They have thought about the headlines and the story’s what are going to be in the magazine because they relate to the pictures, but the colour of the head line story’s do not work well on the pale colours on the boys or on the walls. There is no slogan on the magazine, which is a down fall because if it had one there would be something to remember the college by.

Institution- Grimsby College. The college is a institute of further and higher education, it is a general further education college, offering full and part time further education, people of all ages can attend. You can train for business, education in the community and commercial activities at its main Nuns corner campus in Grimsby.

Ideology- That the college allow’s you to be who you want to be, because by looking at the male’s in the photo, they are not your ideal stereotypically students, they look rebellious. The other beliefs could also be music because both photo’s are to do with music, one been a band and the other been a student who has successfully got through in the Grimsby version of x factor, this means the college are strongly agreeing with there students beliefs and what they want to succeeded in music.

Audience- People who are willing to start a career. The people in the magazine cover look about 18+ so id’ say the age range is 16-20 but because this isn’t a six form college it is open to all ages. The SEG audience will be C1-E because they will not be working to earn enough money to be in the C above range, they might have a part time job instead.

Representation- The magazine represents the students, of the college, which doesn’t have to be the stereotypical age, but on the front of this magazine, there are a male and female student which means it represents both genders. This will attract the potential new students, because its letting them know what the representation and how good the college is.

Analysis of the brief

Language-
Pictures what give enough room for text on the page and what associate with the magazine headlines, text what is easy to read and also colourful and works well on the background. Logo what represents the college and what people will remember it by, slogan to make people remember the college and its magazine in a good way, headline stories associated with the collage, to make the magazine look more interesting? bar code if the magazine isn’t free, it would usually cost if the college was raising money for a event.

Institution-
Wyke College (six form) which means only people from 16-19 can attend.
1300 people at Wyke it is a popular college in the east riding and hull, and disappointingly turns away about 500 people each year.50% of the people attending the college live outside of hull. There is a amazing 99.7% pass rate on A level’s.

Ideology-
The ideology of Wyke College is that it wants you all to respect every student with equality, and treat them all the same. No racism, bullying, or treating people differently for a disability. They also believe in people to get good grades, and not waste there time and prepare themselves for exam’s.

Audience-
The audience is students age 16-19 because it is a six form college, which means it isn’t open to people above the age of 19 or below the age of 16. Its students usually come from east riding or hull, so the audience is based there.

Representation-
It represents the role model student having good grades, and bringing something good to the college, not somebody who doesn’t attend lesson’s and gives a bad representation to the college. Also it represents student’s parents, because Wyke wants them to believe Wyke is the right college for their child.

Out lining the brief.

I  have been asked to design a front cover magazine for wyke college and a draft of a contents page to go in the magazine. We are advised to use DTP-desk top publishing. The front design of the magazine has to include a photo of a student who attends wyke, this must be a medium close up shot.
